The interview is your opportunity to explain your story in detail and present the reasons you are seeking protection in Belgium. Be honest and accurate, focusing on the facts and events you personally experienced or that caused you to leave Yemen. The interview will be recorded, and you may be asked to provide supporting documents. It is helpful to prepare well with your lawyer.

There are two main possibilities:

• Positive decision (granting refugee status or subsidiary protection): You will receive a residence permit and move under the responsibility of the municipality (commune). You will have the right to work, access social assistance (CPAS/OCMW), and other rights.
• Negative decision (application rejected): You generally have the right to appeal the decision before the Council for Alien Law Litigation (Conseil du Contentieux des Étrangers / Raad voor Vreemdelingenbetwistingen). It is absolutely essential to consult your lawyer immediately in case of a rejection.

Leaving Belgium during the asylum procedure can negatively affect your application and may be considered a waiver of the application, especially if you travel to your country of origin or another country where you could have sought protection. It is strongly advised not to leave Belgian territory without specialized legal consultation and official permission if necessary.

The CPAS is the body that provides social assistance to people who do not have sufficient resources, including recognized refugees. They can provide financial assistance (living wage), housing assistance, social guidance, and integration support

• • As an asylum seeker or refugee, you have the right to healthcare. In reception centers, basic care is provided. After obtaining residency, you must register with a health insurance fund (mutualité/ziekenfonds) to get full health coverage like Belgian citizens.
